New Hope City Council gave city staff and Stantec, the city’s consulting engineer, the approval to move forward with the plans and specifications for the proposed 2020 infrastructure improvement project at the Oct. 28 city council meeting.

The proposed infrastructure improvements are for streets, water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers in the southern area of New Hope (see below map for project outlines). The total project cost estimate is $3.3 million.

The street conditions on Northwood Parkway and 36 ½ Circle, the two streets identified for full reconstruction in the 2019 Pavement Management Plan, are very poor. Additionally, the streets planned for either a mill and overlay or reclaim and overlay in the 2019 Pavement Management Plan have street PRI ratings between poor and failing.

An open house was held on Oct. 10 to inform interested residents located in the full reconstruction portion of the project.

The pavement management strategy philosophy has the overall goal of improving driving surfaces to enhance residents’ quality of life, increase neighborhoods’ aesthetic value and increase safety.

The next steps in the 2020 infrastructure improvement project include city council voting on approving the plans and specifications and authorizing project bidding in late January 2020. Bids will be reviewed and awarded in late March.
