Detect and Remove Lead Based Hazards

Detect and Remove Lead Based Hazards
Posted on 09/25/2020

In 2018, more than 200 children in Hennepin County who were tested for lead had blood lead levels that were high enough to cause damage to their health. Lead exposure in young children is serious and can cause:

  • Brain and nervous system damage
  • Slowed growth and development
  • Learning and behavior problems
  • Hearing and speech problems

One of the most common sources of lead contamination are windows. If you are the homeowner of a home built before 1978, you may qualify for help from Hennepin County to identify any lead paint hazards including a free home test and up to a $12,000 grant to resolve lead paint hazards.
