New Blue Line Extension Route Options Introduced
Posted on 03/11/2021

Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County released revised potential route options for the METRO Blue Line Extension on Thursday, March 11. The potential light rail transit routes represent technical and community discussions over several months since project partners announced a new direction for the project in August 2020, advancing the project without the use of freight railroad property.

The corridor has been divided into three unique areas:

  • Area 1: The current route and stations along West Broadway in Brooklyn Park are expected to stay the same.
  • Area 2: Project stakeholders identified Bottineau Blvd (County Road 81) as a potential focus of initial analysis.
  • Area 3: The southernmost part of the corridor with many potential routes requiring in-depth analysis and community engagement.

The METRO Blue Line Extension hopes to identify a single community-supported route option by the end of 2021 and needs the community’s help to do so. Visit bluelineext.org to view an interactive map of potential routes, provide comments, take a survey or connect with project staff.
