New Hope Parks and Recreation has received an Award of Excellence from the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association (MRPA) for its 2020 Virtual Bike Rodeo in the organization’s “Programming and Events” category.

The MRPA Award of Excellence program recognizes agencies or organizations in Minnesota for outstanding achievements in parks, recreation and leisure services. A primary goal of the program is to increase public awareness and appreciation for the excellent parks, trails, recreation and leisure services available throughout Minnesota. Alyssa Fram, MRPA Awards Committee Co-Chair, presented the award at the Sept. 13 New Hope City meeting.

The Bike Rodeo is an annual cooperative event held in May each year between the cities of New Hope, Crystal, Golden Valley and Robbinsdale. The event educates community members about the importance of bike safety typically through hands-on activities including a bike safety course, helmet fittings, bike tune-ups and raffle drawings. During the pandemic the cooperative cities moved the event to a virtual format, ensuring community members could attend safely. The virtual event included bike safety videos, interactive materials and worksheets and concluded with a livestream event and bicycle raffle, hosted by CCX Media.

New Hope Parks and Recreation has received several MRPA Awards of Excellence over the years, most recently for the 2019 New Year’s Eve Movie at the Arena and the urban orchard at Little Acre Park.
