As we enter the heart of the winter season, the inside construction of New Hope’s new police station and city hall continues to heat up.

City management toured the facility on the morning of Jan. 11, and saw many of the new work spaces taking shape, picturing where city employees will be working come early this summer.

Here’s a few of the latest construction updates:

On the city hall portion of the building, overhead electrical and plumbing is being completed the first two weeks of January, along with mud, tape and sanding. Interior paining is scheduled to start mid-January and should take approximately three weeks.

On the police station portion of the building, early January work includes installation of HVAC ducting and fire sprinkler piping will continue along with hanging and finishing gypsum and completing concrete block in the booking area and cells. Mud, tape and sanding is scheduled to start mid-January, along with drywall in the penthouses.

On the exterior, metal coping and wall panels are scheduled to be completed by mid-January.

For furnishing the new facility, city staff is in the process of identifying all furniture to be moved to the new building or re-purposed for other city facilities. Staff is also coordinating with Wold Architects and the preferred furniture vendor on new office furniture for the new building.

As the city looks toward moving into the new police station/city hall, planning is also taking place for the demolition of the current structure, which stands where the new pool facility will go. The city will begin accepting demolition bids on Feb. 7.
