The New Hope City Council awarded Tom Wiblishauser, a resident of New Hope, the Good Citizenship Award for his outstanding contributions to the community during their meeting on April 22.

Wiblishauser has been a resident of New Hope for 43 years and is passionate about teaching math to students. He taught math at Hennepin Tech for 35 years before becoming a tutor at Cooper High School and Robbinsdale Middle School through the TRIO program, helping students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. He is also involved in many projects at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church and advocates for families in need by helping them find community resources. During winter, he shovels a path on sidewalks in his neighborhood to provide a safe walkway for pedestrians. Additionally, he has organized a group for neighborhood safety.

The Good Citizenship Award program was established by the New Hope City Council in 2011 to recognize individuals who embody the spirit of community. The City acknowledges that its strength lies in the dedication of its residents who selflessly contribute to enhancing the quality of life for others.
