Minnesota Energy Assistance Program - Heat and Electricity
The Minnesota Energy Assistance Program helps households pay for heat and electricity costs. The program is free for those who are eligible, whether a renter or homeowner. Eligibility is based on a sliding scale that takes into account household size and income for the past three months. For instance, a family of four, could earn up to $62,845 annually and still qualify for the program.
Payments for energy bills are sent directly to the household's energy company or to a provider of fuel like propane, fuel oil or wood. The benefits average around $550 per household and can be up to $1,400 depending on household income and fuel costs.
The deadline to apply for Energy Assistance during the winter of 2024-2025 is May 31, 2025.
Minnesota’s Energy Assistance Program is federally funded and administered by the Department of Commerce, which works with local service providers throughout the state.
