The U.S. Census Bureau recently released 2020 Census count results. Every 10 years, the U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States and five U.S. territories. The 2020 Census marked the 24th count of the U.S. population, with the last conducted in 2010. The U.S. Census Bureau invited each household to respond to a short questionnaire, which could be completed online, by phone or by mail. This count marked the first time residents could respond to the Census questionnaire online.

How are these results used?
Data collected by the Census is used in several ways.
- Apportionment: Census results are used to determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives for the next 10 years.
- Redistricting: Results are used to redraw congressional, state and local district boundaries based on where populations have increased or decreased.
- Funding: Census results determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are spent each year for the next decade. This includes grants and support to states, counties, and communities for education, housing, health, and infrastructure.
